  • The Smokehouse 6 South Street Ipswich, England, IP1 3NU United Kingdom (map)

Distorted guitars. Strained vocals. Melancholy lyrics. Sound like a fun night?

Far too often, young musicians aren’t given the opportunity to show off their talent, so we’ve taken it into our own hands to put on a youth indie night at the smokehouse featuring only the best of Ipswich’s music scene. Trust me when I say that you won’t want to miss out on this incredible evening of original music from great musicians that will one day be touring the world. You never know, you may find your new favourite band and be able to watch them grow. Only one way to find out!

Happy September! are an Indie Rock band from Ipswich making original music in the style of bands like, The Wombats, Joy Division and The Strokes.

Forming through college connections and Webby’s infamous jam nights, this up and coming band with skill beyond their years has gone from opening for local stars Helix at the smokehouse to headlining it themselves. Filled with all the energy, enthusiasm and heartache you could want that is reflected in their songs, they never fail to get people jumping, dancing, and grieving lost relationships along with them.

Sam Milne is a 16 year old from Ipswich, who plays original indie rock music with his backing band. Sam has played venues like the Smokehouse and the Hotbox, opened Brighten the Corners Festival 2025, and looks to grow through the music scene. His lyrics touch on the desperation of teenagers, the current state of global politics and confused romance, taking inspiration from stellar acts like Sam Fender and Fontaines D.C. From writing his first song “Window” with his best friend to selling out venues across East Anglia, the Ipswich music scene seems to grow ever stronger.

1&½ Gingers are a Folk/Country duo based in Ipswich who have played in a variety of venues around the county. Their music often talks about mental health struggles such as anxiety and depression. They take heavy inspiration from Noah Kahan, Ed Sheeran and James Marriott.
