Followed up by young hip-hop connoisseur Dylan Jay, delivering you a tribute set to legendary and highly acclaimed music producer J Dilla. Most well-known for his signature “drunken” rhythm and innovative sampling.

Over the span of Dilla’s career, he’s released his own solo albums, and has produced countless masterpieces for Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, MF Doom just to name a few.

Dilla Time isn’t just any old DJ night, it’s a curated music experience and fantastic opportunity to round your mates up, grab a drink, and have a memorable time with us down at the Smokehouse.

Dylan Jay is a young and aspiring music producer & DJ. Despite the young age, his music taste really stems from anytime between the 1960s till the 1990s. From Jazz & Soul to Funk & Disco, a true music enthusiast. However, where Dylan’s taste and knowledge truly shines is Hip-Hop. The young lad grew up listening to old school Hip-Hop, as well as many other dope genres across multiple eras, developing a cultured ear for music over time.

EDS, a product from Generation X, a journeyman who embraced “beats, rhymes and life” from the late 80’s, finding connection and zest from gangster rap, into alternative soul, jazz ciphers and RnB sounds in the early 90’s. Later years provided time and appreciation for 60’s/70’s funk and Motown, before a period of raving in London to US soulful house and UK garage, towards kick starting the love and passion for DJing. Playing for local UK garage promotions including Harmony, Tonic, Pam’s House and Godfather Promotions in the late 90s/early 00s, EDS has returned to his genres of first love.

JAL started out listening to the pirates back in the day, becoming an avid collector of records. He has DJ’ed in Ipswich, London, Bristol and Spain playing anything from hip-hop, rare groove, funk and soul.

Immersing himself in funk, soul, the golden age of hip hop and everything in between for longer than he cares to remember, Big P enjoyed funking the airwaves for four years at Ipswich Community Radio with his weekly show, Soul Funktion, and has gone on to share grooves and good times whenever an opportunity arises.
